Day 147 - Dull Grey Miles
October 2, 2009 – 9:20 amIt’s been a dull grey day out here with miles being made despite rather than because of the weather. No sign of the Tsunami out here thankfully (unsurprising as we’re thousands of miles away from the epicentre), although apparently these sort of things at sea are rather a blink-and-you-miss-it affair. On the bright side it’s the beginning of the month so we’ve got new sheepskin pads!
Sorry about the short post today everyone - it turns out Chris was expecting me to put the Captain’s Blog up today, not yesterday (Mick sent it through a couple of days ago). I think there’s a bit of time zone confusion going on between us as to when the first of the month is in the North East Pacific vs the UK… Rich

Chris & Mick travelled 36.0 miles East (heading 95.6°) on day 147

They covered miles 4159 to 4195 of the trip
Their average pace so far has been 28.5 miles/day towards San Francisco
They have 31.1 days remaining at this rate, so would arrive in San Francisco on 2 Nov 2009
Their target heading for the shortest route to San Francisco is East (heading 96.4°)

Hi Chris and Mick
Yes, we too have grey skies down ‘ere in Cornwall. However, we have no wind, although that is forecast for tomorrow, I believe. So you are not the only ones feeling grey today. Never mind, must keep on pushing those miles away - your’re getting closer all the time. Keeeeeeeeeep smiling, keeeeeeeeep rowing and keeeeeeeeeeep safe.

Chris and Mick even without the weather still clocking up the miles. Just keep plugging away and before you know it you’ll be looking up at a rather impressive big red bridge! (No doubt with Hutch racing across it looking for Starsky aka “Mick Dawson”)

After yesterday’s military reflections from Mick, you’ll be well pleased to learn that the Royal Navy distinguished themselves again just a couple of weeks ago. HMS Iron Duke was patrolling off the coast of Brazil when she chanced upon a 138ft rusty trawler called MV Cristal looking a bit suspicious.
Further investigation revealed she was carrying over five and a half tonnes of cocaine; much of which had been hidden beneath a false concrete deck. With an estimated street value of over £240 million, this represented the biggest such haul in British naval history! That might save a few lives!
Not to be outdone, Surrey Police’s latest coup was splashed all over the front page of yesterday’s Surrey Herald. Following a tip-off from a local resident, they’ve removed 31 cannabis plants (worth £10,000) from the banks of the Wey Navigation Canal in New Haw.
Brownie points all round!

… and Iron Duke is affiliated to which UK city? None other than the sophisticated glitzy and glamourous metropolis of the north - Hull.

Nice one lads, good progress. And the new steward is a new LW to the gang, a TLWS if you will! We need the sponge back, thats you Mick.
Keep rowing hard,

See always be nice to your neighbours - (especially if you are an experimental gardener!)
Morse code I can handle, even a spot of Binary, but no idea who has joined what gang and why they need the sponge back!!! Remember Class 5 or are they now 6 (hope they are not 7 by the time Chris and Mick finish)are watching….
Can you see the coast yet boys? Not much further…. GREAT PROGRESS…

I don’t know any experimental gardeners. I know Mick is an ‘uphill gardener’ though.

And again, good going men. Keep it trucking on! I’m in Mullion Cove in Cornwall for the weekend, so, in the Cornish spirit of things, keeeeeeeeep rowing!!!

Oh Hello Footballing rower from Beer - hope you are enjoying the Cornish hospitality, although I do need to apologise to you for the grey skies today - you should have been here a week or 2 ago (when Biff was here), as the sun shone warmly for days and days! What do you think of our Cornish pasties - are they any better than ones made in Devon???
Meanwhile, back on Bo, out there bobbing along on the North Pacific Ocean, I hope Chris and Mick are okay, keeping warm and pushing those miles away. Keeeeeeeep smiling, keeeeeeeeep rowing and keeeeeeeep safe.

Chris - This afternoon, I just popped in to see the folks at the New Fieldwork Company, one of your sponsors whose NFC logo adorns the front of your cabin. Although your replacement at ‘him!’ (the good-ship Blake) is doing a sterling job, I’m given to understand they still think of you now and again! Indeed, if truth be told, several log onto your site every day!
I renewed my acquaintance with Sandra, Tony and Steve; all are full of admiration for your progress to date and send best wishes for a successful end to Bo’s voyage.
