Day 127 - The Northerly Winds Doth Blow…
September 12, 2009 – 7:59 amBrrrrr.
It’s suddenly got chilly on Bo. The northerly wind that were currently experiencing certainly does drop the temperature a few notches. This is much more of an issue in the night than in the day but even then it makes me consider wearing a wooly hat most of the time.
The other problem is trying to cook a decent meal. We have to heat about three pots of water to produce enough boiling water for dinner. Normally this is not a problem at all and as the main meal cooks and hydrates the water for the pudding is being heated followed by the water for the tea. The problem now is that the 8 minutes that it takes to re-hydrate a meal is just enough to bring the temperature of the food down from nearly boiling to something resembling luke warm. Certainly not what is wanted especially when the main meal in question is Beef Bolognasty. Yuk!
Hopefully though this bout of northerly wind will blow through by this time tomorrow. The one thing that both Mick and I are very aware of though is that as we get closer to San Francisco the winds will blow more and more from the north. It seems that we might well arrive in San Francisco wearing all the clothing that we have. Still it’s always better to have too much than too little.

Today thanks go to Michael and Vanessa Pritchard, Chris and my neighbours (and landlords) in Weybridge. Michael sponsored miles 3500-3519. The boys covered these overnight yesterday.
Would you like to sponsor a mile?

Good Morning hris and Mick
Oh that Northerly wind doth blow! Your comment about it being better to have too much than not enough… I wonder if you would use that in reference to the Bolognasty…. as I note you still have plenty of that particular foodstuff in store! Just think though, once you have reached dry land, you will never have to eat that stuff ever again! Keeeeeeep smiling, keeeep well wrapped up, keeeeep rowing and keeeeep safe.

Ha Ha Sue, you think these two are going to stay on dry land!! They will be off on a new adventure within 24 months, wait and see!!! They may not take the Bolognasty with them next time, but I am pretty sure they are adventurers through and through.
And on that note I am off to make my own version, less the nasty bit I hope.
Stay safe boys, enjoy the days as there are not so many left now….

Hi Boys
Just back from a day out house-hunting in the brilliant and warm Cornish sunshine. Hope the sun has been shining for you while you have been rowing, and that Bo is working well to carry you over the waves ever closer to the GG. Judging by the low amount of blogs so far today, I think everyone must be out in the sunshine - no doubt they will catch up after dark. Take care, watch out for further strong windy weather - keeeeeep smiling, keeeeep rowing and keeeeeep safe.

Hello Gents, careful your ‘extremities’ don’t drop off in the cold, or are you rowing with clothes on now?
I boarded my loft today, put up light shades and other bits and pieces. Now going to cook some dinner and finally start unpacking!
Press on!

Chris how bad is beef bolognasty if it still tastes so bad when presumabley you’re desperate for calories! It must have be awful next time taste before you go!
Sue I am also in cornwall this week staying in St Just in Roseland, very pleasent. Is it always this warm in September here? Lovely down here with fesh sardines off the BBQ and a pint of tribute! Chris I suggest you ask Sue for a bottle or two of tribute ale when you complete your voyage.

Biff, your standards are slipping. After our lengthy discussion about spelling, punctuation and grammar, you have really let the side down.
It’s about quality Biff, not quantity. Dear oh dear.
Incidentally, it was a scorcher up here today as well; 24 degrees! My washing dried very nicely out on the line. I also did a very manly thing today, I bought a saw and sawed up some wood with it! RRRROOOOAAAARRRRR! There’s an idea, Chris, you and Mick could have a roar off out there without disturbing anyone! First thing we’re doing when you get back is driving down to Saunton in my truck for a surf followed by blades of cheddar in the White Lion to fuel a roaring competition.
Now that is the stuff dreams are made of.

In answer to Biff’s question about this warm weather in Cornwall, we used to have warm dry weather throughout the summer until about 3 years ago when, thanks to climate change, we started getting continuous mizzle from May to October! Glad you enjoyed the tribute ale - but then Dad Martin has been dishing out that “special” brew named after Bo, hasn’t he? So surely, Chris and Mick should be given a crate of that upon arrival at the Golden Gate - much more appropriate, I would have thought!

Further comment: Fresh Sardines on the Barbee - I wonder if Chris and Mick have seen any of those little fishes swimming near Bo - they look amazing when viewed through clear seawater, as their silvery colour glistens as they move around. Don’t suppose it would be safe to have a barbee on board Bo though…
