Day 115 - Stuck In The Cabin
August 31, 2009 – 10:14 amComfort is all relative out here in the middle of the ocean. You get comfortable days (just like the third bowl goldilocks tries - it’s just right) when the temperature is not too hot or cold, the sea is flat but with a light swell to help you along and you’re able to sleep enough to recover well. Other days are like today.
The wind’s been building and building since last night. By the time Mick had finished cooking dinner it was pitch black outside and starting to get a little sploshy. During the night the sea became a bit bouncier and today (when it’s been my turn to cook) Bo has been thrown around lots by the ocean. All this does make cooking rather difficult especially because we’ve decided to cook meals with rice when on the sea anchor which takes longer and is much more difficult than just putting the kettle on. Still tomorrow it’s Mick’s turn to cook again and it’s due to rain so I’m not going to complain too much.
We’ve seen a few big boats over the last few days and they generally come past either 2 hours after we fall asleep or just after we’ve both wedged ourselves into the cabin. Eitherway the vessels are definately avoiding us so it’s nice to know that the sea-me radar enhancer and the AIS unit are doing their job.
After this period of being on the sea anchor the weather looks as though it will improve considerably for us and Lee has even hinted at their being a high pressure system that might help us out (although I’m only whispering that at this stage just in case…)

My humble apologies Auntie Anne! By the way Chris and Mick just becasue of all the exciting bounty you found on board yestersay doesn’t mean you can sit on your laurels and have a day off. Get rowing!
Anyway, your laurels may become sore if you sit on them for to long.

Hello Chris and Mick
Sorry you are stuck “in the mud” at the moment. I didn’t realise there is enough room in the tumble dryer for two strong fellers like you!! I would advise that you do not both rush for the door at the same time when you want to go out!!
Comment to Biff - wherever you are this morning, the sun is certainly shining eh!!
Hope the better weather arrives soon out there in the North Pacific. Anyhow, keeeeeeep smiling, keeeeeeeep rowing (when appropriate) and keeeeeeeep safe.

Hi Chris and Mick,
There is a fire or two alight out in Orange County - can you see the smoke yet? If you can then go left of it and the bridge is just round the next bend.
Keep rowing and looking forward to Mick’s prose tomorrow morning.

Chris and Mick
What have you been doing while I’ve been selling bric a brac?
So glad you are making headway and getting some good rowing days in.I must say your socks looked warm and cosy, and all that yummy food! what comforts. I’ve loved the jokes but don’t worry Biff I won’t be offering one.
I have been away for 2 weeks catching up on family, yours included Chris. I was in Twickenham last week looking after Grand children. On one of the days we met up with your Mum and Dad who took us to Hampton Court, the river where I am sure you honed your skills for the present challenge, and Bushey Park where you apparently spent many happy hours in the playground and sand pit with Michael. We did go out for a meal and drank a toast to your safe arrival at the GGB.
Keep safe, row hard and never forget SF is nearer than it was yesterday. You ARE well on the way. x

Good to know that you and Mick prepared for the GGB by playing in the sandpit… perhaps less sandpit fun and more counting up food packs for future voyages!
I am of course assuming that the Michael Auntie Anne (Ludlow) is referring to is your crewmate “Mick” the coincidence of there being more than one “Mick” or “Michael” in this world is to huge to contemplate.

Yes Biff, Mick’s are fewer in rowing boats than Tomre’s a by all accounts!

and that should have read Tom’s are! Damn kitten on the key board again!

Oh Dizzie Blonde there was an opportune moment for a Mrs. Slocombe joke there: “Oooo my pussies all over the keyboard again”
